HISTORY

THE BEGINNING

HOWARD STEIN'S ACADEMY OF MUSIC WAS WELL KNOWN IN 1973 AS ONE OF NEW YORK CITY'S PREMIER VENUES. IN SEPTEMBER 1973 BOOKING FOR THE 31ST WAS WELL UNDER WAY WITH BLUE OYSTER CULT BOOKED AND IGGY POP SIGNING ON SHORTLY AFTER.

ISIS IN THEN OUT

A THIRD BAND WAS SOON TO BE SIGNED TO THAT NIGHT. ISIS THE 8 PIECE ALL GIRL ROCK OUTLET WAS SIGNED ON. THEY ARE FIRST SIGHTED IN THE ADS ON OCTOBER 1973. A WEEK LATER THEY WERE OFF THE ADS AND OUT OF THE SHOW FOR UNKNOWN REASONS.

TEENAGE LUST IS IN
TEENAGE LUST WERE SIGNED ON TO FILL THE SPACE LEFT EMPTY BY ISIS ON NOVEMBER 7TH 1973 THROUGH THE ABC BOOKING COMPANY. THEY WOULD GO ON TO STAY ON AND BECOME THE SECOND ACT THAT NIGHT.

THE FAILED LATE SHOW

AS THE NIGHT APPROACHED TICKET SALES FOR THE SHOW WERE SELLING EXCEDINGLY WELL SO A SECOND LATE SHOW WAS ADDED TO THE NIGHT. THE 11:30 SHOW WAS QUICKLY CANCELLED AS MANY OPTED TO PURCHASE TICKETS FOR THE 8PM EARLY SHOW.

THE LATE ADDITION

A FOURTH BAND WAS ADDED LITERALLY ON THE DAY OF THE SHOW. KISS WERE ADDED ON AS A FAVOR AND BECAME THE OPENING ACT. THEIR ADDITION WAS NOT KNOWN BY THE OTHER BANDS UNTIL RIGHT BEFORE THE START OF THE NIGHT. KISS'S 30 MNUTE SET WAS MEMORABLE AS THIS WOULD BECOME THEIR "INDUSTRY DEBUT" AND GENE SIMMONS WOULD SET HIS HAIR ON FIRE DURING THE BAND'S PERFORMANCE OF THEIR SONG FIREHOUSE.
